Arsenal won the match 2-1.

Flamini always scores when it matters.

And did you see how high that Bendtner jumped for that corner before slotting it in for the 2nd goal?!

Too bad he couldn't convert th epenalty won by Hleb.

All in all, a good run out for the boys. Hope they keep it up tomorrow against Inter Milan.

Another Lehmann gaffe gifts Rovers a point

Monday, August 20, 2007, 00:14:14 HRS

Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann continued his nightmare start to the season with a second-half error to gift Blackburn's David Dunn an equaliser in a stormy 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Lehmann, whose mistake allowed Fulham to score at the Emirates last weekend, let Dunn's long-range strike to slip through his grasp and cancel out Robin van Persie's first-half opener in a game which saw Rovers New Zealand skipper Ryan Nelsen sent off and no fewer than nine yellow cards.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had insisted prior to the game that his team would no longer succumb to the physical intimidation that often proved their undoing last season.

Blackburn, more than most opponents in recent season, had been able to unsettle Wenger's youngsters with their muscular approach, but it was clear from the very first tackle that Arsenal would fight fire with fire.

And so it proved as the two sets of players at times seemed more interested in pursuing the cynical side of the game, by feigning injury and conning referee Alan Wiley into awarding free-kicks and yellow cards, rather than allowing their football to do the talking.

It was a spiky opening period to say the least, but Arsenal were able to sneak themselves into the lead on 18 minutes following a defensive mix-up that led to van Persie opening the scoring.

Nelsen's attempted back-header fell short of Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel and Arsenal's Croatian forward Eduardo nipped in to steal the ball and lay it off to Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas saw his close range effort blocked by Dunn, but van Persie reacted quickest to slot the loose ball into the from three yards.

Moments later, Arsenal lost defender William Gallas to injury after he had been caught late by Blackburn forward Roque Santa Cruz. The French international appeared to be struggling with a leg injury, but at least he was clearly injured.

The same could not be said of Eduardo and Blackburn's Robbie Savage, who both made far too much of what could best be described as slight physical contact in aerial challenges during the first-half.

David Bentley was also booked for a crude challenge on van Persie as the game threatened to spiral out of control.

Away from the petty battles, chances were at a premium, but Nelsen almost equalised for Blackburn when he headed against the crossbar on 33 minutes.

Mark Hughes's team made up for their sluggish first-half after the break, however, as they dominated possession and left Arsenal goalkeeper Lehmann under constant pressure.

Arsenal had a lucky escape on 62 minutes when Fabregas handled Chris Samba's volley on the goal-line.

It appeared a clear penalty, but referee Wiley had blown for a mystery infringement a split second earlier, much to Blackburn's fury.

The goal the home side deserved came ten minutes later, though, and Dunn played a neat one-two with Derbyshire before firing past Lehmann from 20 yards.

Lehmann should have caught it with ease, but the ball somehow slipped through his grasp and embarrassingly bobbled into the net.

It remained a fiery game, however, and van Persie became the eighth player to be booked on 74 minutes for a vicious tackle on Nelsen that should have resulted in a straight red for the Dutch forward.

The two players clashed again on 84 minutes, but this time, Nelsen was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for tugging van Persie to the ground.
