3. Walk around during the day time e.g. looking for booking joints. I don't usually walk down dark streets at night. Keep to lighted areas. Night time travel is always via grab/gojek and direct to the joint/KTV.
4. When catching cab, I almost always call grab and charge it to my card. That way, the taxi driver can claim they got no change. But I also try keep some loose changes e.g. some 2k, 5k, 10k and 50k notes.

Great tips.
Not being cheapskate or what, but there is really no point in engaging taxi in batam. As long as your journey is within 2-3km(I am pretty sure you wont go too far away if your trip is just a simple fk trip) the grab fare will be around 17k-25k only. Oh and yea pay your grab fare with card.
Where as if you get a taxi, no matter how near is your destination, they will quote you 50k. And they like to act no small change.
But its still up to you though, cause everyone perception on the amount of money spent is different.
Another tips I would like to add on regarding grab is, whenever someone accepted your grab, directly text them something simple like "Pak, otw?". Wait 1 min if they never reply, just cancel and book again. Cause the grab driver in batam like to simply accept order, and their gps is fked up, it showed they are nearby, but in fact they are more than 10mins away.
