Yes, stay low profile and try to "blend" into the place. Dun talk so loud and laugh so loud like you are in sgp kopi shop, less attention means less risk.

One thing the local chinese told me, when talking better in mandarin then hokkien or teochew, I do not really understand why, maybe coz the locals speak dialect always mix some bahasa. So if you can do that, U blend in better.
As for the part, SGP Malays in btm, does not mean they speak their tongue, U speak Malay in btm, they know at once U not local, even if you wear head to toe stuff bought in btm.
