When you learn Tieng Viet from a Teacher from Hanoi, she will teach you in the northern accent. When you talk to the girls in JC or GL, they will have a little difficulity in understanding you (but still ok), and then when they reply you, you totally catch no ball (!!!), because 90% of these girls are from the south (HCMC) and they speak in the southern accent.
So it depends on your motive to learn the language:
If you wanna learn the correct form and wanna do business in Hanoi, Northern accent is the right choice.
If you wanna improve your communication ability with the girls in JC or GL or to cheong in HCMC, then southern accent will be better, this you do not need a teacher, just learn from JackBL... hahaha !
By the way, the people from the north and south don't like each other very much.
