When i went to TPHCM recently, these were my following expenses (converted to SGD).
$185 - Plane ticket
$11 - Taxi from Airport to BX's place (stays with sister)
$72 - Hotel room 5D4N
$9 - Petrol for bike (borrowed from friend, that's why i want to buy her a bike for herself)
$32 - 4 days supply of drinks/water/snacks from Big C
$29 - Toys for her niece and nephew
$49 - Day 2 Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner for myself, bx, bx sister, bx sister's husband, 2 kids.
$20 - Day 3 buying groceries to cook breakfast lunch dinner for 4 adults 2 kids
$144 - Buying 6 week's supply of milk powder for her niece and nephew (this one i volunteer,... small kids should have proper nutrition instead of soy milk....
)
$0 - Day 4 Bx's sister's hubby feel paiseh i come up so much money so he bought alot of nice food to cook for bx + me.
$120 - Treated bx + friends to drinks at nearby bar, forgot name.
$21 - Treated all to roadside beer + cuttlefish
$80 - Got measured for male version of Ao Dai (I look ridiculous in it, but maybe i wear for Halloween Party at Joo Chiat????
) BX to collect for me and keep for when i next return.
$5 - Take photo with bx before going airport
$14 - Taxi to airport.

Total expenditure = SGD790 for 5D4N (including accommodations + flight).
If not for flight + accommodations, bare min. budget should be:
Food+drinks - $50/day ($20/day if your stomach can handle roadside food; luckily mine can)
Taxi - $30/day ($15 if you speak simple vietnamese to ride Xe Om)
