Ha Noi will always be a mystical wonderland for me. It was the first time I had ever travelled on a business trip and was a complete and utter newbie. Let me share something with you. That 1st trip I took I was staying at a Pho Hue hotel. I asked the concierge where a nice KTV was and he directed me to a local one.

As a total "toot", I went to the brightest most crowded one I could find (Sillyporean tendencies appearing; got crowd sure must be good) and to summarize: 1) Paid USD120 for nuts, fruits, towel, beer, tips for all the GROs...but not the eventual chosen xinh gai! 2) She said she wanted to leave at 11:45pm. I no speak any Tieng Viet then (mine still quite condemned) and so in chicken duck talk style was trying to convince her to go out for a quickie. Didn't realise it was the signal for me to go out with her! 3) Ended up in a Nha Nghi in god-knows-where and had to find a xe om to take me back. Damage for the whole ST was USD50. I paid the xe om driver/rider VND100,000 as I thought it was a long ride. Turns out (I found out later) that it was only a 10 minute ride if he had just ridden the shortest way through. 4) Found out I was totally screwed (cashwise and physically) when I check with FRs on SBF then.

Hence I believe that either one has a good "mentor" or speak at least some Tieng Viet to have a more reasonably priced escapade in HN. After everything though, today I look back at it all and laugh.
Khong co chi, anh Albert.

You have been mercilessly chopped at the local bia om... but that's what happens to every other newbie there. This is why the seniors (Deptrai, TP, etc...) always recommends that newbies contact someone who is experienced there to show them around, and not just get some address and go in by themselves. However, many still just don't get the message.

I am lucky to have Deptrai's "protection" and guidance when I was new there... so did not kanna chop.
